Niya Nesbitt Obituary

Mrs.Niya Malikah Nesbitt was born on December 18, 1976, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Charles and
Claudia Walker, who raised her with unconditional love and support. Both parents and family
encouraged and nourished her independent and creative spirit.
Niya accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Fifth Christian Disciples of Christ
Church under the leadership of Reverend Timothy James.
Niya attended the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Schools and proudly graduated from Regina
High School. One could describe her as strong-spirited and determined, so when her high school
counselor suggested that she was not college material, she was determined to prove her wrong.
She was accepted to and attended Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio, where she earned a
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. Niya always believed in having a side hustle, so while attending
Ursuline, Niya also received her nail tech license. Upon graduating, Niya worked for several years as a
Social Worker for Catholic Charities. Years later, she attended John Carroll and Tiffin University,
where she was two credits away from earning her Master's.
Even though she appeared to be dainty, at heart she had a little “daredevil” spirit in her. During
her training as a catastrophe adjuster, she was instructed that part of her job description was to
scale a twelve-foot ladder and walk on a rooftop. She didn’t blink an eye and was excited when
they delivered her company truck, and she was able to drive it all the way to Chicago for training.
Niya was so short that she had to use a six-foot ladder to get on the top of the truck and remove
the twelve-foot ladder.
She met the “Love of her life”, Lemoyne B. Nesbitt Jr., at the age of thirteen while attending her
God brother Jason’s Reid’s birthday party.
It was love at first sight. For the next 35 years, he was the only man for her. On July 11, 2009
She married her dream man at Cathedral Worship Center. The pastor officiated the wedding
Michelle Moore. This union welcomed two beautiful daughters, N’Dea, “my twin,” and Zanelle
“Zee Zee” Nesbitt.

Niya was the glue that kept our family together and strong. She was always the one to call, text,
and keep in touch with distant relatives and friends. Niya was also the family and friends' “Private
eye”. If you needed to know somethin,g all you had to do was place it in Niya’s hands. The Google
search app was no match.
She loved to shop and definitely had a flair for fashion. UPS, FedEx, and Amazon truck drivers
knew her on a first-name basis.
Just like her eye for fashion, Niya was also extremely creative and artistic. She loved creating
beautiful blankets and coffee mugs. Outside of making blankets and mugs, she enjoyed shopping
with her daughters at Hobby Lobby and T.J. Maxx.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles L. Walker. Niya transitioned home to our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Left to honor her memory are her husband
Lemoyne Nesbitt Jr, faithful daughters N’Dea and Zanelle Nesbitt, and her loving and devoted mother
Claudia Walker, her siblings Charles Walker, Carmen, and Jeffrey. Her stepchildren Arien and
Chloe Nesbitt. Her aunt Linda Brown, uncles Robert Roberson, Kevin Walker, and Ronnie Sipp.
Her sister in law Delarion Nesbitt, along with a host of other relatives and close friends.
